Powering up telework

After more than a decade of allowing employees to telework, Georgia Power formally adopted teleworking policies and developed a program that would eventually allow more than half its employees to telework at least once per week. This practice helped those teleworking one day a week to slash their commute costs by 20%.

The program was implemented seamlessly as a result of the excellent remote access infrastructure in place allowing easy accessibility by employees. Security and safety are paramount on the system and training was provided to familiarize teleworkers and their managers with the comprehensive policies and IT guidelines. Some employees telework full-time, which results in zero air pollution and driving expenses, while others enjoy the benefits of teleworking up to four days a week, which saves them 80% on their commute costs.
