Experience joy of open road, improve health and support environment during 11th annual event

Atlanta, GA – Sept. 6, 2023 – Dust off those handlebars, check the brakes and pump up the tires. Pre-registration for the 11th annual Biketober Challenge runs through Sept. 30, and those who register early are entered for a chance to win a $1,000 Airbnb gift card.

Biketober, sponsored by the Georgia Commute Options (GCO) program, kicks off Oct. 1. During the monthlong event, metro area residents are encouraged to trade in their vehicles for bicycles and pedal toward improved physical and mental well-being and a greener, more sustainable environment.

“This year, we want people to experience biking like never before,” said Jill Goldberg, GCO’s marketing and communications director. “‘Gear Up and Go’ is our theme, and it’s also a rallying cry to encourage new and existing riders to rediscover their sense of adventure, whether that means biking to work or school or taking a spin across the many paths and trails that populate our 20-county metro region.”

Biketober promotes fun, fitness and cleaner commutes along with some friendly competition. The goal is simple: to get more people riding bikes. Whether it is 10 miles or 10 minutes, participants can ride anywhere, anytime and earn rewards.

Cyclists can form a team with friends or coworkers and compete by logging their miles and earning points for every mile they ride, every day they ride and for every additional person they encourage to participate. The more points they earn, the more chances they have to win weekly prizes, including cash. This year’s grand prize is an Edison electric bike.
