GCO’s 2020 Gift Guide

Since many of us may not be able to spend time with our loved ones this holiday season, connecting with each other is more important than ever. So, if you’re looking to finish your holiday shopping, here are some suggestions for gifts for everyone on your list:

For the Teleworker

A wireless mouse: For some teleworkers equipped with only a laptop, months of trackpad use can put a strain on their wrists. A wireless mouse can help. Oh, and don’t forget a mouse pad to go with it!

A standing desk converter: Despite working from home for the last nine months, many people may still be lacking some of the supplies that they would normally have in the office. A standing desk converter is a great option to help out your friend who misses their stand-up desk.

Blue light glasses: Staring at screens all day can cause headaches! Blue light glasses are a budget-friendly gift idea that will be sure to give your teleworker’s eyes a rest. There are even options that are blue light and reading glasses all in one.

For the Commuter

Resealable, reusable plastic bags: For friends and family who are traveling into their workplace, it’s a good idea to bring an extra mask in case theirs gets wet or dirty. A resealable, reusable plastic bag is great for extra mask storage – that way, your loved one is able to change masks and store the dirty one in the plastic bag until it can be washed. Some of the bags are even dishwasher safe!

A water bottle with a pop-up straw: Many of us already have reusable water bottles, but this year, opt for a new kind – a water bottle with a built-in, pop-up straw. A water bottle with a straw reduces the chance of accidentally touching the water bottle opening with unclean hands when trying to take off the cap.

An audiobook subscription: For friends and family who are still commuting, enjoying an audiobook can be a great way to decompress from the stress of the day.

For the Remote Schooler

A whiteboard and markers: For students of all ages, a whiteboard can be a good way to practice lessons, solve problems, and have fun while learning remotely.

A reusable notebook: For the high schooler or college student on your list, consider a reusable notebook. Not only is it an environmentally conscious choice, as a bonus, it’s surprisingly budget-friendly!

Wireless headphones: Having headphones can help to reduce outside distractions from other members of the household. From in-ear to noise cancelling, there are tons of options to choose from!

For the Job Hunter

A computer ring light: If you know someone who is currently searching for their next opportunity, they may be conducting their interviews online. A ring light can help to better light their face during their interviews, so that the focus can be on their experience and not on the weird shadows cast from their lamp.

Childcare: Looking for a job is a full-time job, so for parents and guardians in the market for a new job, watching children at home can be a major challenge. If you live nearby, consider offering to host a masked, outdoor playdate for their kids to help them get a few hours of work done.

Tablet or iPad: Most applications these days are online, so if your loved one only has a phone or has no technology, a tablet or iPad can be a great option to help them better access job markets.

For Everyone

Some face time: This may not come with a gift receipt, but spending some quality time together, even over the computer, is a wonderful way to let your loved ones know you’re thinking of them this holiday season. If you’re feeling the screen fatigue, spice up the chat time by playing some games together! Some favorite options: Houseparty games like Chips and Guac, Scattergories or UNO, or go with a classic option and play Oregon Trail as a group while sharing your screen.

For Yourself

A staycation: This year, give yourself the gift of a break. If you have time off available, use some of it! This year has been stressful for everyone, so taking some time, even if it’s just a day, can help you reset and rejuvenate.
