Biketober is in full swing here in Metro Atlanta! Now that you have gotten your bike rolling, you may be looking for a new place to ride. That is where our partners at the PATH Foundation come in!

The PATH Foundation has been serving Metro Atlanta since 1991, and they have been a part of building over 300 miles of paths around the Atlanta area. Whether you are a seasoned rider, or just getting started this Biketober, we have some options for where you can ride this month.

Short and Sweet:

  • Peachtree Creek Greenway: At just 1.3 miles, this trail is a peaceful ride along the Peachtree Creek in Brookhaven connecting North Druid Hills Road and Briarwood Road.
  • Lionel Hampton Trail: This 1.1 mile trail was PATH’s first in 1993, with much of the right-of-way for the trail donated by jazz superstar Lionel Hampton. This is an easy ride through forest and parkland, and it is great for the whole family.
  • Southtowne Trail: This mostly wooded path takes you three miles though south Atlanta near Browns Mill Golf Course. A little bit off the beaten path, this is one of the more under utilized trails in the metro area.

Explore the Town:

  • PATH Parkway: Even though this ride is just 1.5 miles each way, you can see so much of downtown Atlanta. Ride alongside Georgia Tech’s Campus and end up at Centennial Park on this dedicated bikeway that is totally separated from traffic, with the World of Coke, Georgia Aquarium, and many other attractions nearby.
  • PATH 400: This 5.25 intermittent greenway trail takes you parallel to Georgia SR 400 and right into the heart of Buckhead. You get great views of Buckhead from the southern portion of the trail, and you can even get some shopping done as you ride.
  • Westside Beltline Connector: This 2.1 mile ride begins at Centennial Olympic Park with a family friendly route as a protected cycle track and sidewalk turns into a rails-to-trails greenway. Get great views of downtown Atlanta as you travel across multiple bridges along the way.

Work Up a Sweat:

  • South River Trail: This trail features two segments. The westernmost portion of the trail is 10.1 miles, beginning at Intrenchment Creek Park and following along the South River until the trail ends at Waldrup Road. The eastern portion of the trail is 3.2 miles beginning at MLK High School and ends at an intersection with the Arabia Mountain Path.
  • Stone Mountain Trail: If you are looking to challenge yourself, and see some sights along the way, the Stone Mountain Trail could be a good ride for you. This 18.4 miles path begins in Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta, and it takes you all the way out to Stone Mountain Memorial Park. There are several blocks of sharing busy streets and on-road riding for this path, so keep that in mind making your plans.
  • Silver Comet Trail: For those who really want to push themselves, or just want to see how far they can go, the Silver Comet Trail is a great ride in northwest Metro Atlanta. This trail is longest in Georgia, at 61.9 miles, and it becomes the longest in the country when coupled with the Chief Ladiga Trail in Alabama.  There are multiple parking options available for you to find the starting location that is most convenient for you. The trail’s official starting point is off of Mavell Road in Smyrna.
  • Arabia Mountain PATH: A long, hilly ride of 19.1 miles, the Arabia Mountain Path will be sure to challenge to anyone. Reaching elevations as high as 979 feet, and as low as 641 feet, be sure to bring snacks when you head to this one!

If you are looking for a riding experience that is a little bit “off the beaten path”, our partners at the PATH Foundation have you covered there as well! They have a list of curated trail experiences if you want to stop at different markets along the Freedom Park Trail, take a waterfall tour through the Arabia Mountain PATH, visit local breweries along various PATH trails, or many other biking adventures around Metro Atlanta.
