Taking Transit During COVID-19

Transit is an integral service for people across metro Atlanta. So, if you are returning to transit, keep these tips in mind to help you stay healthy.

Commuter Tips

  • Follow the instructions listed on signs from the transit provider
  • Maintain social distancing while waiting to board transit, during boarding and exiting, as well as while riding
  • Wear a mask for the duration of your ride
  • Be flexible, as you may need to take a later bus or train to comply with social distancing
  • If possible, adjust your work schedule to allow you to take transit outside of peak hours
  • Avoid touching surfaces, if possible
  • Use touchless payment options wherever possible
  • Carry hand sanitizer with you and apply after touching handrails or other surfaces, as well as after you exit the train or bus
  • Skip a row between yourself and others, if possible
  • If you can, enter through the back of the bus. On MARTA buses, you will not be expected to use the fare box at the front of the bus. However, you should be in possession of the fare during travel
  • If you need assistance riding transit, bring a member of your household to assist you to avoid additional interactions with people outside of your household
  • Review provider websites to make sure you know their policies or schedule adjustments before riding

Employer Tips

  • Share communications from transit agencies with your employees
  • As a larger worksite, consider notifying local transit agencies that you are reopening your worksite so they can consider adjusting nearby service to meet your needs
