Atlanta’s known for its incredible job market – as well as its traffic, which can pose a barrier for both current and prospective employees. In a2022 survey of commuters in Metro Atlanta, 60% of employees reported their commute as a main factor impacting their willingness to return to the jobsite. Offering a commuter benefits program is a great way businesses can cater to a critical need within their workforce, attract and retain talent, and stay competitive in their industry.
SHRM-Atlanta recently held a roundtable to discuss innovative strategies for recruiting and retaining employees through effective commute solutions. The discussion was presented by SHRM-Atlanta’s Liz Beltramini and hosted by Sabrina Green, Director of Outreach and Employer Services with Georgia Commute Options, and Sunny Dellinger, Vice President for the Better Business Bureau of metro Atlanta.

In early 2023, faced with the daunting task of relocating their business from Downtown Atlanta to Alpharetta, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) knew that the move would impact their staff, especially those living far from the new location. Rather than ignoring impending commute challenges, they embraced the opportunity to innovate and support their employees through a commuter vanpool program.
The BBB partnered with Georgia Commute Options to find the right program that helped improve job satisfaction as well as assist in recruiting top talent.
In just one quarter, the vanpool program realized the following incredible results:
- Employee savings: $24,028
- Pounds of CO2 reduced: 32,714
- Commuter Miles Saved: 42,926
- Parking Spots Reduced: 13
As employers, BBB offers a playbook on what it means to prioritize the well-being of its employees. Beyond the bottom line, investing in initiatives like vanpooling fosters a more engaged and loyal workforce and underscores a commitment to creating a more sustainable future.
Watch the webinar now to learn how you can make vanpooling happen at your organization.
The BBB’s story is just one example of how GCO helps organizations make their vanpooling goals happen. The services GCO provides for free help companies implement convenient, modern solutions for green commutes, lessening the burden on employers and employees alike.
