Located in Peachtree Corners, Curiosity Lab is a technological business incubator and living laboratory providing a real-world testing environment for more than 50 local companies with the goal of advancing next-generation intelligent mobility and smart city technology.

What’s a smart city?

It’s an urban area that uses digital technology to provide services and collect data from citizens, devices, buildings, or cameras. According to IoT World Today, Peachtree Corners is the leading smart city in America as it features smart buildings, high-speed connectivity in a 5G wireless environment, private lanes for self-driving vehicles, solar-powered roadways, and more. Naturally, this rich technological ecosystem was the perfect set-up for the mission of Curiosity Lab, which was founded in 2019 to drive business growth within the city and fill the demand for local high-tech jobs.

Many state-of-the-art features allow the lab to achieve these goals, such as its 25,000 square foot Innovation Center, a 5G-enabled 3-mile autonomous vehicle test track, a prototype design area, classrooms, and Peachtree Corners’ smart city infrastructure which thousands of people and vehicles interact with every day.

A proving ground for big ideas:

Since its founding in 2019, the Curiosity Lab has become home to several companies from industrial sectors, including agriculture, construction, software development, and green technology. One of those companies was Intuitive Surgical, a California-based producer of minimally invasive surgical technology, and its presence at Curiosity Lab has led to the creation of more than 1,500 local jobs. Audi also collaborated with the lab to develop strategies for connected vehicle solutions in Peachtree Corners.

In addition to local startups, several corporations have set up shop at the lab as well, including T-Mobile, UPS, Georgia Tech, and Bosch, all helping to drive the region’s innovation economy. The Curiosity Lab is also taking steps toward supporting international businesses as it is currently the host site for La French Tech, a tech program started by the French government, plus businesses from Canada and Portugal.
