Million Air Challenge Participants Keep ATL Fresh!

Metro Atlanta employers and commuters rallied to take nearly 1M miles of clean trips to
reduce air pollution and support sustainable travel

Georgia Commute Options (GCO) is proud to announce the successful completion of the 2025 Million Air Challenge, a clean air initiative encouraging metro Atlanta residents to ditch solo drives in favor of more sustainable commutes throughout the month of April.

This year’s challenge drew 1,905 participants, including nearly 700 new members, who collectively took over 55,000 clean trips such as biking, carpooling, riding transit, teleworking and scootering. All these trips added up to an impressive 964,044 miles of clean travel that helped clear the air of 670,258 pounds of CO2 and saved commuters over $425,000!

“Year after year the Million Air Challenge demonstrates the power of small, positive changes that, when taken together, add up to big savings in air quality, congestion and at the gas pump,” says Johann Weber, GCO’s Program Administrator.

In addition to individual participants, 13 employers from across the 20-county Atlanta area rallied their employees to get involved and support sustainable commuting habits. These employers helped reduce 21,845 pounds of CO2. The GCO team recognized Blue Cypress Consulting for a stunning 23% participation rate and Gwinnett Technical College for recruiting the most new members of all the participating organizations.

Participants also had the chance to win exciting prizes throughout the challenge, making each clean trip not only impactful but rewarding. Congratulations to all our grand prize and clean trip winners!

The Million Air Challenge was presented by Georgia Commute Options. Partner organizations included GA Conservancy, Trees Atlanta, Zoo Atlanta, Shift, ASAP, Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association, Livable Buckhead, Midtown Alliance and Perimeter Connects.

Georgia Commute Options, a program managed by the Atlanta Regional Commission and funded through the Georgia Department of Transportation, works with employers, commuters and schools to encourage drivers who ride alone to make the switch to a commute alternative such as riding transit, teleworking, carpooling, vanpooling, walking and/or biking, with the ultimate goal of reducing congestion and the emissions that contribute to smog pollution.
